Activated charcoal pieces

US Patent No. 12,091,639 B1 (Jenna L. Arkin, Ryan K. Hood, Johanna Sandoval, Marlene Raigoza, James W. Davis); Venus Laboratories, Inc., Cypress, CA, earned a US patent for a laundry detergent sheet comprising a water-soluble matrix comprising a solidified polymer mixture. It contains a detergent component, bound and suspended by the water-soluble matrix, of ionic and non-ionic surfactants; 0.2%-5% enzymes selected to break down certain molecules on soiled laundry; and activated charcoal (embedded in the water-soluble matrix) that is comprised of particulate carbon having a porous exterior surface and an average surface area of at least 950 m2/g.

The water-soluble matrix is configured to release the detergent component and the activated charcoal when it contacts a sufficient volume of water. According to the patent filing, the porous exterior surface of the activated charcoal adsorbs some of the molecules broken down by the enzymes.

Venus Laboratories does business as Earth Friendly Products.
